Techkinect completed a multi-phase technology and electrical upgrade for this Middletown, Ohio residence, bringing entertainment, lighting, networking, security, motorized shades, and electrical systems together throughout the home.
The Control4 system serves as the foundation for the home's automation. Smart dimmers, keypads, fan controls, CORE controllers, and Halo remotes provide centralized control across the main level and basement. The home's network was also upgraded with Ubiquiti UniFi routing, switching, and Wi-Fi access points to provide reliable connectivity for the connected systems.
Entertainment systems were installed on both the main level and basement. Each incorporates architectural Triad in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, Denon AV processing, KEF subwoofers, and Control4 integration. The main-level system also features a Sony OLED television. The basement received its own Control4 CORE controller, Halo remote, seven architectural Triad speakers, Denon receiver, and KEF subwoofer.
The home's automation system was later expanded with eight custom Clara motorized shades across the living room, primary bedroom, additional bedroom, office, and kitchen. A centralized wired shade-control system was installed in the IT closet and programmed into the existing Control4 system.
Security was also substantially upgraded. Techkinect installed seven hardwired Alarm.com surveillance cameras—three 4MP floodlight cameras and four 4MP varifocal turret cameras—along with new Cat6 cabling and a PoE video doorbell. A larger 48-port UniFi PoE switch and upgraded 24U equipment rack with active cooling were added to support the growing technology infrastructure.
Additional electrical improvements included a new 200A indoor panel, four dedicated 20A appliance circuits, extensive basement lighting improvements, 29 recessed lights, and additional Control4 keypad/dimmer integration.
The result is a great example of how a home's technology can evolve over time. Rather than treating AV, networking, security, lighting, shades, and electrical as independent systems, the infrastructure was expanded in phases to create a more connected and cohesive home.
